Kenyans have been left mouths wide after siaya county officials presented to the Senate the chair used by the Siaya County deputy governor William Oduol. The chair approximately cost the tax payers a whooping ksh1,120,000.
The deputy governor was impeached by members of the county assembly on June 8th. He was impeached for abuse if office, gross misconduct among other charges.
The 11 member senate committee investigating the deputy governor’s impeachment sat on the chair to ascertain it’s comfort level. The chair was wheeled on June 22 during the second day of the committee meeting. The chair is made of mahogany wood.
The deputy governor however dismissed the claims that he bought the armchair.He pointed out to the county governor James Orengo who initiated the procurement process. He said that the governor instructed the renovation of his office after visiting him and saw the poor state it was in.
The members of county assembly accused the deputy governor for looting of public funds. Among other expensive furniture in the deputy governor’s office include ksh 2,844,000 for 12 executive black leather chairs ,ksh 756,700 , for five coffee tables, ksh 567 ,700 bookshelf cabinet among other expensive furniture.
The members of county assembly indicated that a total of ksh 18 Million was used to renovate the deputy governor’s office.
