Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua announced on sunday that his family believes that the rich coffee cartels poisoned his brother the late Nderitu Gachagua leading to his untimely death.
“Our family believes and we know the late Nderitu Gachagua was poisoned by those people.And since then ,a very healthy person started being sickly and we believe these people harmed him”Gachagua said.
The DP characterised the cartels as risky and harmful , saying the government remains committed to oust the cartels from the country. Gachagua said that the cartels who also act as marketers exploit kenyan farmers who end up leavingin poverty.
Gachagua said that the cartels sell as much as 1000 USD dollars per bag but only end up paying 200$ per bag. kenyan farmers also loose ksh 6 or 7 due to exchange rates. according to him , the cartels have previously been bribing the government officials in order to keep them in business.
Gachagua said that the war over the cartels can only be won by him and the president and not the governors due to their added security.During the interview with Inooro tv, Gachagua said that the cartels sent a diplomat with ksh 30 million to Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi so as to bribe him.
He said these aheadof the coffe summit he is expected to lead in Meru county with an aim of improving the coffee sector.
