Uganda, who aspires to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) along with Kenya and Tanzania, has formally handed over their joint East African candidacy to their government before to the deadline for CAF applications on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
The joint offer was presented to the government team on Friday in an official ceremony by the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) team, led by Moses Magogo. The government delegation was comprised of Sports Minister Peter Ogwang, Chairman Ambrose Tashobya, and General Secretary Dr. Ogwel Benard.
This comes after the Kenyan government’s appeal was presented on Monday by President William Ruto, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, and Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa.
The FUFA Committee delivered the EA Pamoja bid for AFCON 2027 today, ready for submission to the CAF on 23. I value the assurances and support I have received from the whole government of Uganda, particularly Speaker Anitah Among, State Minister of Sports Peter Ogwang, and the Ugandan Parliament. Magogo was posted.
Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda are seeking to host the biggest football event in Africa for the first time in the region’s history. In order to compete with Egypt, Algeria, and Botswana for the honor, they have developed a compelling plan.
Hon. Ogwang and Mr. Tashobya responded to queries posed on social media and by journalists present, assuring Ugandans that the required infrastructure would be set up in due time.
President Ruto said that his government fully supports the East Africa Pamoja bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, reiterating Kenya’s commitment to ensuring the bid’s success.
We are positive that this is a great opportunity for East Africa, and I have discussed it with my colleagues in Tanzania and Uganda. Ruto promised that a lot of work will be done into being ready to host the AFCON in 2027.
Other nations that have expressed interest in hosting the famed event in 2027 include Algeria, Egypt, and Botswana.
The four bids’ formal final designs must be submitted by May 23 in order to be considered before inspection inspections in June and July.
