The National Assembly Finance Committee led by Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga has today rejected the increase of taxes proposals as contained in the Finance Bill 2022.

The Bill has been proposed by the National Treasury and it would act as a new measure to help the Kenyan government raise revenue by increasing taxes on some items such as the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
The treasury intends to generate an additional of sh51. 6 billion from the new taxesThe legislators have recommended the lowering of VAT on LPG from the current 16% to 8%.
The committee has also noted that if the current excise tax on alcohol and betting would have increased.
Proposals to increase excise duty of motorcycles has also been shut down by Mps arguing that the boda boda industry has created employment to millions of Kenyans.
