Interior Cabinet secretary Prof . Kithure Kindiki has announced that Wednesday June 28 will be a public holiday through a gazette notice dated June 26.
The day is meant to mark Eid UI Adha, also known as the feast of the sacrifice which is celebrated for three days. The day commemorates the faith shown by Ibrahim the day prophet Ibrahim was ordered by God to sacrifice his only son Ismail and he agreed.
It is related to Christianity’s Abraham who was asked by God to slaughter his only son Isaac as a sacrifice to him. Both religions believe that God then offered a ram for the sacrifice instead.
It is celebrated at the end of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, Islam’s holiest place. Each Islam is expected to visit mecca at least once in his life time .It is set to end on July 1st 2023.
