The US embassy will remain closed on Monday 19 June after president Joe Biden declared it a public holiday for America and it’s embassies.
The offices are located in Gigiri area in Nairobi.The embassy made the announcement about it’s 24 hour closure following the directive from the president. The embassy serves both Kenya and Uganda.
The embassy processes visa cards for immigrants, protects Americans in the country and serve as a diplomacy for the country.
President Biden declared it a federal holiday to commemorate Juneteenth.It is the day slavery was ended in America.it was also the day African Americans received the news .
It was first celebrated in June 19 1886.President Biden in his announcement said “the day was meant to breathe new life into the very essence of America.
Juneteenth has now been added to other public holidays celebrated in the united States. Other federal holidays include Christmas day , labor day , Columbus day, thanks giving day among others.
